Accessibility
We want Sportsmortem to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, need larger text or higher contrast, or prefer reduced motion.
Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We are partially conformant: most of the standard is met, but the gaps listed below are not, and the site has not been independently audited. We would rather say that plainly than claim a certification we have not earned.
What we have done
- Text and interface colours meet the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast minimums in both light and dark themes, including component boundaries.
- A skip link, a labelled main landmark, and visible 2px focus indicators on every interactive element.
- Animation is suppressed for visitors whose system asks for reduced motion, and the headline carousel can be paused.
- Standings and results tables use real header cells, row headers, captions, and sort state that is exposed to screen readers.
- Charts and shot maps distinguish teams by fill and outline rather than by colour alone.
- Content that loads asynchronously is announced rather than appearing silently.
- Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard, including pagination, shot maps and chart toggles, and focus is never hidden behind the sticky header.
- Dates and numbers follow the visitor’s locale, and the sport is named “football” or “soccer” to match it.
Known gaps
- Some dense tables render at 10px, which is below a comfortable reading size even though it meets the contrast and zoom requirements.
- The interface is available in English only. Dates, numbers and sport terminology adapt to your locale, but no translated content is offered yet.
- We have not yet completed testing with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS) or a full manual keyboard pass of every flow, so undiscovered issues are likely.
